Tour in Argostoli

Begin from the main square of Argostoli. At the surrounding streets, you will find many shops with traditional products, souvenirs and other items, as well as many cafes. Visit the interior of the St. Spyridon church to see the great gilded wooden temple and walk till the Square of the Bell with the Clock that was rebuilt after earthquakes.

Also, do not miss to see the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli with the remarkable findings from Kefalonia, as well as the Historical and Folklore Museum to experience the urban and rural life from the Venetian period till 1953. Walk down the street with the palm trees (King George Street) to see Cosmetatos House, one of the few mansions left at the city after the earthquake.

When the temperature increases, Makris Gialos beach is fairly close by car or by bus, to enjoy your swimming in its clear blue waters. Very close to Makris Gialos, in the area called Minies you may find another winery where you can taste local wines.

Alternatively, after your tour in Argostoli, you can visit the Castle of St. George in Travliata and have a rest in the Kastro village. Make a tour by car at the beautiful and picturesque villages of Livathos, and towards your direction to Kourkoumelata and Kalligata villages you can select one of the beautiful beaches for swimming, Ammes, Minies or Avithos beaches. Enjoy walking and local dishes in traditional taverns and restaurants in the Livathos region.

In the case that sea and wine increase your appetite, you may visit the restaurants in Lassi area and in the coastal area of Argostoli, offering a variety of dishes and local recipes. Continue your evening with drinks and entertainment at the bars of the central square of Argostoli.

Tour in Paliki

Visit the peninsula of Paliki by boat beginning from Argostoli. Stop in Lixouri and have a tour at the nearby streets where you may find plenty of shops and cafes.

Alternatively, follow the main coastal road to enjoy the scenery of the route. Once you arrive in the Livadi area, a little bit before Lixouri, you may turn right and head to the spectacular beach of Petani. During afternoon, you may have your lunch at the taverns being there offering fresh fish and other local delicacies.

Take some time to visit the neoclassical building of Iakovatios Library with its rare collection of books, manuscripts and Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons.

Visit the Xi or the Mega Lakos beaches having red sand so that you may enjoy the sea and the unique landscape. Taste local dishes and fresh fish in the taverns of South Paliki area. Then you can go for a tour at the villages of Mantzavinaton and Soullaron where residents traditionally deal with spatial winemaking.

If you are found there in late August, you will watch the winemaking process in the courtyards of their homes. Just before the sunset, make sure you are on the terrace of Kipouraion Monastery in order to enjoy the best sunset on the island. Then, turn back to Lixouri and stop for a cool drink at the city’s bars.
